Garage Sale Dolly

Garage Sales. I love them. And this weekend is the town wide garage sales!!!!! I had a really cool find.

This is Dolly. She is 26" tall. She was laying in a pile of clothes and her arm had fallen off. :(

I bought her for $2! When I got her home I found that more than just her arm needed fixing. Her eyes where all white and her hair was TERABLE!

I set right to work. First her clothes came off. TO MUCH PINK!

The back on her arm went. It was surpriznly easy. It just snapped in. I then cleaned her with a magic eraser. Next I scrubbed her eyes with a cloth and then with a tooth brush. (I blew on her eyes to make sure the water was all out.)

Now came the hair. It used to be in curls but that had long sence been gone. Taking a small section of hair at a time I soaked each strand with water and carefully combed through it with my wire doll brush. After all the big rats where out I went at it with a New (I didn't want dadriff in my dollys hair....) plastic comb. Her bangs were alful so I took some hair and made new.

I gave her a fresh set of clothes and now she is Beataful!

Here is a quick comparison with my american girl doll Sarah. She also has red hair.

The hair color is much the same.

What do you think of Dolly?

Sarah Update

Hi! Long tome no post, I know. Sorry about that. I thought I would take the time to update you on how my custom historical doll Sarah was coming. :D So the first thing I did was to give her a good cleaning. I also tightened her limbs. I was going to make seprate posts on how to do this but I am lazy and I skipped some steps..... So here are some links to some GREAT posts and videos.

Tightning Limbs

Ok now that thats done..... I also Added Freckles! :) now I WILL show you how to do this. :)

You will need:
Brown Washible marker
A Perniment Marker
A wet (but not dripping) Rag

I tested it on her foot.....

The first way I will show you is Removable Freckles.
Take the Washible marker and holding your doll in you lap carefully put little dots on her cheeks and across her nose. You make put as many of as few as you would like. They come of at anytime with a wet rag. You can even leave them on for a year or more and they WILL come of. BUT ONLY IF YOU USE A WASHABLE MARKER!!!!! very inportant.

Now for the Pernament.
I did the washible BEFORE I did the pernament so I knew how I wanted it.
This is the same as the washable but I want to say, BE VERY CAREFULL!!!! THIS WILL NOT COME OFF!

So what do you think?  I will answer any questions you might have.......

Oh And I Guess I will ask. I have made Outfits for her. But i don't Have to "Whole" outfit. Like american girl would sell. Meaning I don't have the Shoes yet.... etc)  Do you want t see the utfits before they are "Complete"? Or wait? Comments below! :)

How to make a Braided headband

Last week I showed you how to make Highlights. Today I am going to show you how to make a Braided Headband!!!!! When American girl released the braided headbands I was like YEAH! than I looked at the price.
Not happening.
So when I got the hair for the Highlights and it had a braid on the headband I thought, Lets give this a try! :)

For this project I used a blond hair extension from my local Dollar tree. It cost $1 and the snaps I bought in a pack a Walmart for $3 or $4 dollars. Have gotten A LOT of use out of them.

Here is a picture of what I had to start with. It is a plastic headband with a braid running along the top. The extensions is about 26" long.

I cut the hair off of the headband. And was left with this.

Carefully brake the plastic band right above the cloth bottom.
(Note: The end is covered with a piece of cloth)

Start pealing the braid off the band. All the way around.

Brake the plastic at the other end. The same place you did on the other side.

Here is is laid out flat.

If you look carefully you can see where I cut the hair of the braid. You may need to trim if they seem to long. Just be careful you don't cut the braid.

Next I glued on side of a snap to the plastic piece at the end of the braid.

Wrap the braid around the dolls head and note where the snap comes down.

Glue the snap on there.

And your done. Clip underneath the head.

Hope you enjoyed!
